Philosophy

Japan Corporate Governance Research Institute (JCGR) should contribute to the establishment and diffusion of corporate governance in Japan and the world, and consequenly to the development of liberalized economy through theoretical and practical research, surveys and consulting on corporate governance.

Activities

JCGR will carry out the following activities to realize its philosophy. (1) Activities that contribute to the development and improvement of corporate governance and the liberal economy in japan (2) Conduct of corporate governance survey and publication of survey results (3) Enlightenment and education activities on corporate governance (4) Consulting on corporate governance practices (5) Developing human resources responsible for corporate governance (6) Research on corporate governance (7) Collection of materials on practices and theories on corporate governance (8) Activities incidental or related to the above items

History

In 2001, Japan Corporate Governance Research Institute was established as an institute that conducts surveys on corporate governance of Japanese companies. Since 2002, annual survey (JCGIndex survey) has been conducted on corporate governance for all companies listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In 2012, it merged with the Japan External Directors Network, launched the Japan Corporate Governance Network (CG Net), and has continued the JCGIndex survey as an independent research division of CG Net. In 2010, it has started monthly study sessions on corporate governance and finance respectively to widely share our understanding of corporate governance. In 2019, in order to conduct independent and free activities of research, education, consulting etc. on corporate governance, it was decided that it would leave CG Net and register as an independent institute.

New JCGR's Activities for the time being

Education and Enlightening JCGR will enhance the early morning study sessions on corporate governance and finance that have been ongoing since 2010. In addition, JCGR will develop such as educational activities, workshops, symposia and so on. JCGR will also receive requests for director training of active and candidate directors on corporate governance。

Consulting activity JCGR will diagnose the best corporate governance in consideration of your company's size, details of operations, personnel affairs, etc., and support transition to new governance system.

Think tank function JCGR will start working as a think tank. Although JCGR itself is a small organization, it can take advantage of the past activities and network of researchers / practitioners. We will receive orders for researches on development of liberal economy through improving corporate governance.

Dialogue In addition to posting columns on hot topics by JCGR relatives etc., part of the discussion in the early morning study session will be made public.
